Here, we&#8217;ve also provided a brief intro and tips for using <em><strong>Mission US<\/strong><\/em> with your kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the Missions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each mission immerses players in a transformational moment in American history and empowers them to make choices that illuminate how ordinary people experienced the past. The games are replayable and encourage players to try different choices to earn new badges. The website also provides a wealth of primary documents, activities, and other resources to help deepen learning. The games are designed for middle school students, but may also be used by older and younger audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Since some of the topics Mission US explores may be sensitive, adults should preview the game content to make sure it is appropriate for their kids.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/games\/for-crown-or-colony\/\">For Crown or Colony?<\/a><\/em><\/strong> players step into the shoes of a printer\u2019s apprentice in 1770 Boston, where they encounter Patriots, Loyalists, and the Boston Massacre.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/games\/flight-to-freedom\/\"><em>Flight to Freedom<\/em><\/a>,<\/strong> players take on the role of an enslaved 14-year-old girl who escapes to Ohio and discovers life in the \u201cfree\u201d North is dangerous and difficult.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/games\/a-cheyenne-odyssey\/\"><em>A Cheyenne Odyssey<\/em><\/a>,<\/strong> players experience events as Little Fox, a Northern Cheyenne boy whose life is changed by Westward Expansion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/games\/city-of-immigrants\/\">City of Immigrants<\/a><\/strong> <\/em>casts players as a Russian Jewish teen who immigrates to New York City in 1907 and becomes part of a growing labor movement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/games\/up-from-the-dust\/\"><em>Up from t<\/em><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/landing-mission-5\"><em>he Dust<\/em><\/a>,<\/strong> players navigate the challenges of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl as teenage twins struggling to keep their family wheat farm afloat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/games\/prisoner-in-my-homeland\/\">Prisoner in My Homeland<\/a><\/em>,<\/strong> players step into the role of a Japanese American teen whose family is incarcerated by the US government during World War II.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Using Mission US with your kids<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"454\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-1024x454.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5830\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-1024x454.png 1024w, https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-600x266.png 600w, https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-768x341.png 768w, https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-1536x681.png 1536w, https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-2048x908.png 2048w, https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-1568x695.png 1568w, https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-365x162.png 365w, https:\/\/assets.mission-us.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20201543\/Planning-graphic-1-500x222.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All of the Mission US games are <strong>free and playable from a web browser<\/strong> on most PCs, Macs, and Chromebooks (be sure to enable Adobe Flash player in your browser\u2019s site settings\u2014see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/help\/\">help page<\/a> if you have any technical issues). (No personal information is required for player accounts, in keeping with child privacy laws.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For Crown or Colony?<\/em> and <em>Up from the Dust<\/em> are also available as <strong>free iPad apps<\/strong> in the App Store. You\u2019ll also find many other support materials, including additional writing prompts, backgrounders, activities, primary sources, and additional media resources for each mission in the online <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/teach\/\">Mission US Educators\u2019 Guide<\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.east-inflatables.co.uk\/e104-inflatable-water-slide.html\">inflatable water slide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Note about Adobe Flash<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Mission US&nbsp;<\/em>series was originally developed in Adobe&nbsp;Flash, a platform that will be phased out by the end of 2020, but we are in the process of rebuilding the games in an updated Unity engine.&nbsp;<em><strong>For Crown or Colony?<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong><em>Prisoner in My Homeland<\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong>are already available in Unity. We are currently rebuilding&nbsp;<em><strong>A Cheyenne Odyssey<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em><strong>City of Immigrants<\/strong><\/em>, which both should be available in Unity by early 2021. Unfortunately, we don\u2019t yet have sufficient funding to rebuild&nbsp;<em><strong>Flight to Freedom<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/em>or&nbsp;<em><strong>Up from the Dust<\/strong><\/em>, but we hope we will be able to do so in the future.&nbsp;<em><strong>Up from the Dust<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/em>will remain available as a free iPad app and Windows 10 app.&nbsp;<em><strong><em><strong>Flight to Freedom<\/strong><\/em> <\/strong><\/em>will be available as a downloadable PC or Mac application, but may not work on up-to-date macOS as it is a 32-bit application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mission-us.org\/help\/\">Help<\/a> page.
