This is a strong title that can make history come alive&#8230;This is not a frivolous edutainment title. This innovative game is designed to get you thinking and talking about challenging subjects, while learning more about American history. It&#8217;s a good one to explore and discuss as a family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jay is Games<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201can intelligent, thought-provoking work\u201d \u201chighly recommended\u201d \u201ca must-play\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em><a href=\"http:\/\/jayisgames.com\/archives\/2014\/01\/mission_us_a_cheyenne_odyssey.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mission US: A Cheyenne Odyssey<\/a> <\/em>tackles an important period of history head-on, well-aware of its difficulty, and its success in its depiction is to be lauded\u2026 All in all, A Cheyenne Odyssey keeps up the high stands of education and fun that the previous chapters of the Mission US series promised, and while targeted towards a young audience, history buffs of all ages will find it a must-play.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been lucky enough to cover the Mission US series ever since its first installment, and the topics they&#8217;ve chosen to cover have never been more relevant (though one sometimes wishes they weren&#8217;t&#8230;). The team has never faltered in providing deeply researched personal tales\u2026We all have much to learn from the past, and that learning never comes easier when it can come in the form of games like [Mission US\u2019s] <a href=\"http:\/\/jayisgames.com\/review\/mission-us-city-of-immigrants.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>City of Immigrants<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/tech\/columnist\/jinnygudmundsen\/story\/2012-02-05\/black-history-month\/52950088\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>USA TODAY \u2013 4 out of 4 stars \u2013 Kids relive history with free role-playing game<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n\u201crealistic\u201d \u201cbrilliant\u201d \u201cingenious\u201d \u201cfascinating\u201d \u201ca powerful game that all kids should experience\u201d<br \/>\nThe branching storylines, each tied to your possible decisions, are brilliant in their diversity and ingenious in how they weave together to create the fascinating story path of this game. The story line is careful to reflect the history of the time and show it from multiple perspectives. From hearing spirituals being sung in the beginning of the game to Lucy&#8217;s haunting voice at the end recalling her journey, this is a powerful game that all kids should experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kotaku.com\/5885194\/they-made-a-video-game-about-slavery-and-its-actually-good\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>KOTAKU \u2013 They Made a Video Game About Slavery, And It\u2019s Actually Good<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n\u201cIt&#8217;s not only an engaging video game, it&#8217;s a harrowing, illuminating look at the realities of life as an American slave\u2026<br \/>\nI was struck by how effectively the game placed me in the shoes of an American slave. The precarious nature of my existence was readily apparent\u2026<br \/>\nThe game&#8217;s presentational simplicity forced me to use my imagination, and I imagined very scary things. This was real, I kept reminding myself, people lived this, they lived under these laws and with this kind of fear. Sneaking through the yard at night, stealing enough food from the garden to be able to survive the coming trial\u2026 I was very much in the moment. It was intense\u2026<br \/>\nMission U.S. would certainly make for an engaging classroom aid, but it&#8217;s so much more than that\u2014it&#8217;s an entertaining, well-made adventure game, a slice of livable history that every American should play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/livingislearning.edublogs.org\/2013\/01\/09\/mission-us-convinced-me-that-gaming-has-a-place-in-the-classroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Living is Learning \u2013 \u201cMission US Convinced me that Gaming Has a Place in the Classroom\u201d<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nI have used parts of it in 7th grade Social Studies class for several years now and have been consistently impressed by the quality of the content and support materials\u2026 My students were very engaged by the game and often played it on their own at home and\/or play it multiple times.\u00a0 They identified with the characters and had a much better understanding of the events that they \u201cexperienced\u201d in the game.\u00a0 This, combined with the quality of the content, has convinced me that gaming can (and will?) have a place in education.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jordanshapiro\/2014\/04\/26\/lets-get-serious-about-video-games\"><strong>Forbes.com \u2013 \u201cLet&#8217;s Get Serious About Video Games\u201d <\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n\u201cMission US: Cheyenne Odyssey\u201d is different. It brings history to life&#8230; It plays like a smart, modern version of the \u201cChoose Your Own Adventure\u201d novels that I loved as a kid. I say it brings history to life because it focuses on the real, everyday decisions that one Cheyenne boy, Little Fox, has to make. It is exciting to me to imagine students learning history in such a way that they see how immediate decisions have impact not only on individual survival, but also on the trajectory of a collective future.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/archive.parentschoice.org\/product.cfm?product_id=35568&amp;StepNum=1&amp;award=aw\">Parents\u2019 Choice Awards \u2013 from Gold Award review for Up from the Dust:\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Game play is compelling; we couldn&#8217;t put it down the first time through. The entire interactive story can be completed in an hour or two, but there are so many roads not taken that players will want to revisit the game a few times to see whether bigger risks or more caution will work out best\u2026This is a free app, but it is worth more than many full-price games on the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teachers\u2019 Choice Awards \u2013 from the teacher evaluators\u2019 comments:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cStudents, even those who identified themselves as not liking history at all, fell in love with mission-us.org. You know you have a great product when moans of &#8216;NOOOOOO&#8217; fill the room when you say it is time to move on. The content knowledge students gained from the simulations allowed for much deeper discussion than I have experienced at the fifth-grade level.
