The Mission US Meetup is a monthly meeting where educators and experts get together to discuss a pertinent social studies topic. At this month’s meetup, we\u2019ll focus on the role of ordinary people in history, and how it influenced the development of No Turning Back<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll be joined by special guest Pamela N. Walker, PhD, Assistant Professor of African American History at the University of Vermont and lead advisor for\u00a0No Turning Back<\/em>. Dr. Walker received her PhD in African American and Women\u2019s history from Rutgers University and her work examines motherhood, race, activism, benevolence, ideas about the \u201cSouth,\u201d epistolary writing and political consciousness in 1960s-era social movement networks. She is currently working on a book titled Signed, Sealed, Delivered: How Black and White Mothers used the Box Project and the Postal System to Fight Hunger and Feed the Mississippi Freedom Movement<\/em>, which tells a new and illuminating story of ordinary Black and white women\u2019s overlooked participation in the modern Civil Rights Movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
